45th Annual Utah All-State High School Art Show

February 4 - March 24, 2017

This annual juried exhibition showcases the art of high school juniors and seniors throughout Utah. The purpose of this exhibition is to foster original visual art among Utah teenagers by providing a professional forum for student artists. For many students, this exhibition will be their first taste of competition, something they will encounter in their future art careers in college and later in the professional world.

ACCEPTED ENTRIES 2017
** Thank you to everyone who entered! It was an extremely competitive show and the jurors all wished they were able to accept more pieces than the space would allow.

Eligibility
Open to Utah public and private high school students in grades 11 and 12.  Works must be submitted by the high school art department (not individual students).  Each student may be represented with up to two pieces which meet the specifications of original or adapted concepts. (see below)

- Original Artwork: Developed from personal experience, imagination, and direct observation; from multiple personal photographs or sketches. Please include copies of any personal photographs or sketches used during the creation process on the back of your submitted artwork.

- Adapted Concept: Artwork developed from other sources using multiple elements or photographs with personal interpretation to create a new perception.  We require the use of two or more images for each adapted work.  Each source material must be identified on this entry form and the entry card, and an image or copy of the actual source must be included.

- Copy Work: Artwork that is directly copied from one source without original or creative adaptations.  (not allowed in this exhibition)
Entry cards and source images must be filled out and attached to the back of the work before the work is brought to the Museum.

Jury Groups
This exhibition is a juried exibition, or in other words 12 Jurors with experience and understanding of high school art are selected to represent various media categories. Jurors will select works to be accepted in the exhibition as well as the award winners.
This year's jurors will include:
Drawing Group: Howard Lyon, Dave Habben, and Wayne Kimball
Painting Group: Jeanne Hansen, Casey Childs, and Deb Brinkerhoff
3D/Mixed Media Group: Ed Ham, Jason Lanegan, and Jean Irwin
Digital/Photography Group: Justin Hackworth, Lyndi Bone, and Fletcher Booth.

Last year's Juror group statements can be accessed HERE.

Artwork Delivery & Pickup
Artwork should be delivered to the Springville Museum of Art, January 17-21, 2017, 10am-5pm. Works not accepted into the show may be picked up any time after February 4, 2017. All work may be picked up from the Museum from Saturday, March 25 - Friday March 31, 2017 during Museum hours. No artwork will be released from the Museum before March 25, 2017. Failure to pick up work by this date may result in the reduction of bonus entries the following year for the school. If students would like to pick up their own artwork they need to make an appointment with museum staff.

Award Opportunities
Various awards (some with cash prizes) are presented to selected students in the exhibition. An invitation is extended to all high school students, teachers, and friends to attend the awards ceremony at the Springville Museum of Art on the day of the Opening, Saturday, February 4,  2017 at 10:00 am. A public Opening Reception will follow directly after from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Additionally, some award winners will be invited to attend a special day of recognition at the Utah State Capitol Building on February 22, 2017 – Please watch www.smofa.org for more information about this event.
