Corriente Alterna

PROArtes México + loveDANCEmore at Springville Museum of Art

loveDANCEmore and PROArtes México to present Corriente Alterna (Alternative Current), an international performing art series celebrating traditional to contemporary multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary Mexican, Chicanx, and Latinx dance, theater, and performance art makers from Mexico and the United States. The series is composed of eleven performances by artists from Utah, Texas, and Mexico. Corriente Alterna is committed to advancing the visibility of innovative artists from Mexico and Mexican and Latin America descendants.

APRIL 21st | 7:00pm to 8:30pm | Springville Museum of Art   

The performance will begin at 7:00 pm. A short discussion with the choreographer and performers will take place immediately following the performance. 

Registration in advance encouraged, but walk-ins welcome.




About the Performance

Primer Amor, un sistema de sutiles correspondencias (First Love, a series of subtle correspondences)

Inspired by Samuel Beckett's short story, First Love, Primer Amor is a love story between a man and a woman trapped in the most absurd loneliness, who share their destiny as a continuous beginning. This piece combines dance, clown, pantomime, and juggling techniques to create a playful performance for all audiences.

About the choreographer and the company  

Teacher and choreographer Jaime Camarena was a student at the Barcelona Theater Institute. During his eight-year stay in Europe, he participated as a dancer, choreographer, and teacher in different companies. In 1999 he received first place in the INBA-UAM Choreography Award with the choreography "E pur si muove." In 2000, he won first place in the Ibero-American Choreography Award in Havana, Cuba with the work "Latitud 0... en el punto de la memoria."

He is the founder and director of the company A Poc A Poc; his work has been presented in various international festivals in Germany, USA, Cuba, France, Paraguay, Brazil, Peru, Algeria, Tunisia, Colombia, as well as on the most relevant venues in Mexico, and the company's work has been supported by the most prestigious cultural institutions and programs of Mexico.
